Seven months after OJ-UGANDACOM launched, its most read articles are about army chief General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and his mother, Janet Museveni, who is also the minister of Education and Sports.
The story we published about General Kainerugaba was a fact check, and we were investigating the widely believed rumour in Kampala and other urban areas that he had an affair with the daughter of former Lubaga South MP John Ken Lukyamuzi.
The fact check involved an interview with Mr Lukyamuzi himself, who told this website that the rumour was false and that he had sued the newspaper, now defunct, that started the rumour by publishing a false story that Susan Nampijja was romantically involved with General Kainerugaba.
Ms Nampijja also dismissed this rumour, as Bukedde newspaper reported in November 2023.
General Kainerugaba is President Museven’s first child and has been married for decades. He has never publicly addressed the rumour, but his followers on X allude to it in comments when he makes tongue-in-cheek posts about women.
The second article is an opinion written under the column, The Founder’s Mind Space, and it reacted to a piece Mrs Museveni wrote on May 8, responding to an article Daily Monitor published on May 3.
Six reasons you should trust what you read on this website—and share it with confidence
1. Led by experience that travels well
Our founder and editorial director, Musaazi NAMITI, brings more than two decades of serious newsroom experience, including eight years as an editor at Al Jazeera in Doha, Qatar, and consulting for the African Development Bank, UN agencies and Globe Media Asia in Cambodia. His global exposure anchors OJ-UGANDA.COM in professional rigour and fairness—standards that too often slip in Uganda’s crowded media space.
2. We fact-check with scientific precision
Verification is NOT a box we tick; it is how we bring journalism to life. We confirm spellings, dates, figures, places—every detail that shapes a story. If a fact looks shaky, we pause and probe. Emotion does not lead us; evidence does.
3. We are a legal entity and are fully registered
OJ-UGANDA.COM is a company registered with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau. Our registration number is: 80034266163714
4. Radical transparency in how we work
We do not hide behind mystery. We show readers how information is gathered, verified and edited. You will always understand why we stand by a story—because we will let you in on the process.
5. Accountability you can see
When we err, we do not sweep it under the carpet/rug. Our corrections policy ensures every error is corrected immediately, with a clear note explaining what went wrong and what has been fixed. No quiet deletions. No half-truths.
6. Fair treatment for contributors
If you write for us, your ideas remain yours. We refine, not usurp. We share every edited version before publication, and we publish only work that is fact-based and mutually agreed upon. Your voice stays authentic—and honest.
🔴We run a clean, professional news site that prioritises editorial quality and draws readers’ attention to what matters.
That article was written by one of the newspaper’s columnists, Philip Matogo, and was titled “When a revolution eats up its children”.
Writing in the government-owned New Vision, Mrs Museveni, who did not mention the columnist’s name, said she was “saddened that a journalist could cast aspersions on someone who has passed away and is not able to speak or answer for themselves”.
“We must ask ourselves, ‘How would I feel if they were spreading lies about my loved one or family member?’” she wrote.
The article did not single out any lie that the columnist wrote about Jimmy Bageire, whom Mrs Museveni called “a vibrant and kind young man who came from a wonderful family that are still our friends to this day”.
This website took interest in Mrs Museveni’s article because of her claim that “we have done our best to serve the people of Uganda with a clean conscience before God.”
The title of our article was “Museveni family keeps invoking God—but if he exists, is he really happy with their record?”
