Who is behind OJ-UGANDA?
OJ-UGANDA was founded in March 2025 by veteran Ugandan journalist and former Al Jazeera editor Musaazi Namiti, assisted by UAE-based seasoned Sekadama and storyteller Edrick Joel Magambo. Its mission is to redefine the role of traditional media by offering a trusted alternative to social media, which, despite being a primary source of news and information, is rife with fake news, disinformation and misinformation.
Does OJ-UGANDA have any political affiliation?
OJ-UGANDA has no political affiliation. Politics is covered strictly as a newsworthy topic, not as an endorsement of any ideology or party.
How is OJ-UGANDA financed?
OJ-UGANDA is funded through reader donations and sponsored content from advertisers.
How do readers donate?
Readers can donate by clicking the “donate” button on our website and following the prompts.
Do readers who make financial donations influence OJ-UGANDA’s editorial decisions and news coverage?
No. While we value reader support, donations do not influence our editorial decisions. Our content is independent, and donors have no say in what we publish.
How does OJ-UGANDA choose topics to cover?
OJ-UGANDA’s editorial decisions are guided by clearly defined content categories outlined in our menu called OJ Menu Guide. Each section explains its relevance and purpose, ensuring transparency in our coverage.
What does OJ-UGANDA do when it publishes inaccurate information?
We strive for accuracy, but if we get something wrong, we issue a clear correction without removing or concealing the original content. Transparency is key.
Does OJ-UGANDA use Artificial Intelligence in its news gathering and editorial operations?
Yes—but with clear boundaries. At OJ-UGANDA, we use AI in a limited and transparent way to enhance the visitor experience, not to replace journalism. Our editors use AI for back-office tasks such as proofreading, drafting routine emails and producing clearly labelled AI-generated visuals. We have also introduced a new, podcast-style feature where AI voices discuss pieces already published on OJ-UGANDA.COM. This is simply a creative, accessible way to help audiences engage with our commentary. It helps people who struggle with reading.
Can readers write for OJ-UGANDA?
Yes. One of our content categories, Opinion & Commentaries, includes a Voice of the Moment section for readers who want to contribute opinion articles. We have editorial guidelines for contributors, which we encourage them to read before submitting articles. All published articles must bear the author’s name—OJ-UGANDA does not accept anonymous submissions.
Why has OJ-UGANDA joined a crowded market?
We encourage readers to visit our Unique Selling Proposition page, which explains what sets OJ-UGANDA apart from the more than 41 news and information websites operating in Uganda. A crowded market does not necessarily mean a quality market. Many existing websites fail to meet the expectations of discerning readers.
Does OJ-UGANDA have a print edition?
No. OJ-UGANDA is a digital-only platform. This allows us to publish timely content, reach a wider audience and operate sustainably without the costs associated with print media.
How can readers stay updated on OJ-UGANDA’s latest stories?
Readers can subscribe to our email newsletter (still in the making), follow us on social media or visit our website regularly for updates.
Does OJ-UGANDA partner with other media organisations?
We have not started yet but will collaborate with select media organisations and content creators who share our commitment to high-quality journalism. However, our editorial independence remains uncompromised.
Does OJ-UGANDA publish investigative journalism?
Yes. Investigative journalism is a key part of our work. We prioritise in-depth reporting on issues of public interest, including corruption, governance and human rights.
Can I advertise on OJ-UGANDA?
Yes. OJ-UGANDA offers advertising opportunities, including sponsored content. For details, visit our Advertising & Partnerships page or contact our team.
