Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said in an interview with Zanny Minton Beddoes, the chief editor of The Economist, that “There really won’t be anything that AI can’t do better than humans, apart from being human, perhaps.”
The statement has been shared on social media by thousands of people.
For me, as a non-believer, this statement raises a pertinent question: If humans were created by God, as major religions claim, how come God was not able to create humans whose intellectual capabilities correspond with or surpass AI?
Of course, this is a difficult question to answer since God is a figment of people’s imaginations. However, if Mr Musk is correct, then it means the omniscience attributed to God is misplaced.
More examples illustrate my point. The human heart beats without any rest or break unless it has a problem. If someone lives to be 100 and has a resting heart rate of 60 beats per minute, their heart will beat at least 3.15 billion times. The figure obviously goes up since the heart rate increases with any movement or physical activity.

If an entity can create a heart that works for 100 years without any rest, and if the same entity can create the brain and other great things that make up the body, that entity can easily replicate what AI is capable of doing in humans.
Yet we see failure that is hard to understand. For example, a woman giving birth may fail to have a vaginal delivery because the baby is too big to pass through.
If God creates people, he should ensure that the size of the baby in the womb corresponds with the size of the birth canal. But if a baby is too big to pass through, it means that God did not pay any attention to the baby’s size.
And this takes us back to the omniscience question. An all-knowing entity would know the baby’s size even before the baby’s parents had sexual intercourse leading to the pregnancy. The fact that the baby’s size can pose a great risk to the baby itself and mother raises questions about God’s omniscience. Does he know what religious people claim he knows?
AI is going to do wonders, and many things religious people have often attributed to God may have to change. And the question will be: Does God really exist?
